Who we are

Since its inception in 2001, CRSS has been dedicated to empowering women and communities living in disaster-stricken poverty and extreme poverty belong to southern coastal belt region in Bangladesh. The organization’s initial focus was on raising awareness, sensitizing, and organizing women to alleviate poverty through leadership and management skill-building. Over the years, CRSS has grown into one of the leading local NGOs in southern coastal region of Bangladesh with a presence in 5 districts of Barishal Division. Its services have been highly appreciated by the communities it serves, and the organization remains committed to promoting climate resilient sustainable development, gender justice, and social harmony. Throughout its long journey so far, CRSS has made a significant impact on the lives of many people, and it continues to work tirelessly towards creating a better future for all.

To develop a society where all people irrespective of gender, age, caste-race-religion, physical and financial inabilities are enjoying risk-free, environment friendly safe life with freedom, using optimum potentials for improved livelihoods, availing all services dedicated for them with  climate change adaptive technologies.

Founder's Footprint

Center for Rural service Society (CRSS) began its journey in 2001. Initially, CRSS started microfinance program in Barishal Sadar Upazila under Barishal district of the southern coastal belt region which is severely impacted by climate change induced disasters. Gradually, CRSS has expanded its activities in other southern coastal districts of the Barishal division. Currently, CRSS working in 5 districts of the southern coastal belt region in collaboration with international donor organizations including Government Departments of Bangladesh. 

Over the last 22 years, CRSS has been giving efforts to bring a sustainable change in the lives of deprived people through implementing different types of interventions. CRSS usually works for the poor, extremely poor, vulnerable and all other disadvantaged groups particularly women, children, persons with disabilities, youth and adolescent. CRSS is committed to contribute to the global development goals as well as Bangladesh government’s development targets by carrying out various activities. The program approach of CRSS mainly includes capacity building on different income generating activities, input/start up support, market linkage, trade-based skills development and support for employment, leadership building, disaster preparedness, climate change adaptation, humanitarian response, awareness raising and advocacy.     

We believe that cordial cooperation and enormous support we receive from community people, development partners, government officials, civil society people, local government bodies, private sectors, other stakeholders and program/project participants give us strength to carry out activities smoothly. Thus, I would like to pass on my heartiest thanks and gratitude to those who are always with us in the pathway of working for the poor.

We also look forward to getting cordial cooperation as always from all so that we can move forward overcoming our limitations in coming days.
